Women Geoscientists from Asian countries, i.e. from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lankaare are invited to join AWGA. The Association operates with a core staff of volunteers and proposes a free initial membership till the year 2020, the year in which the 36th IGC will be held in New Delhi. It is believed that the activities outlined in the Association’s mandate, would create a support for the empowerment of women geoscientists. This would in turn be a most effective pathway for overcoming difficulties in their day to day working in the Office, Laboratory, Classroom or Outdoors.
Our vision is to create an Association that would strive hard for the Asian Women Geoscientists to become efficient, have worldwide representation and receive recognition in their respective fields. The Association would also seek to advocate safety and security of women working in the field of geosciences. A respectful and fruitful working environment is fundamental for maintaining a high level of professionalism and for assuring an ethical conduct while practicing geosciences. Therefore, the Association would discourage any kind of harassment and discrimination on gender basis.
The Association’s mission is to empower women geoscientists through knowledge based capacity building, skill development for field work and promotion of Geoethical practices. The Association aims at providing the network at national and international levels through networking of women geoscientists with an objective to apply geosciences for solving the challenges of sustainable development. It intends to foster contacts between working women geoscientists and geoscience students at Universities through conferences and lectures.
